Meet Paula
Paula, give a little background history of yourself.
I’m a lifelong athlete, former varsity soccer and cross country coach, mom to four awesome kids, wife to one awesome man, and a pretty good cook.
I love to run, read and travel. Preferably all at the same time.
What made you decide to pursue this area of study (i.e. Exercise Science)?
Initially, I wanted to learn more about resistance training. I knew very little about weight lifting and how to properly implement a program into my coaching.
What made you to decide to pursue this interest in the Exercise Science program at ACC?
After taking the FITT 1401 class, I knew I wanted to complete the program to better myself as a coach and begin my career as a 1 on 1 personal trainer and coach.
What was the most challenging/difficult part of the program?
Anatomy & Physiology and program design, no doubt.
What was the best/most beneficial part of the program?
The time spent in lab.
Are you currently employed as a Personal Fitness Trainer? If so, at what capacity? If not, why not?
Yes. I work for a large gym as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. I’ve obtained 3 additional certifications since completing the Exercise Science program at ACC one year ago. I’ve advanced quickly due to my knowledge and understanding of program design and kinesiology. I give ACC full credit for that knowledge.
If you had a single piece of advice for someone interested in being a Personal Fitness Trainer, what would it be?
Make an appointment to speak with Pam Soto about enrolling in the Exercise Science program at ACC.
